MOVE YOUR MONEY
January 2nd, 2010Welcome
May 30th, 2009Go Fire Your Bank is an all-volunteer group of concerned citizens in the Portland, Oregon area. We are suggesting a simple, direct way for people to make a difference with their banking habits. We encourage people to fire their big corporate banks (we provide a fun pink slip) and put their money into local, responsible banks and credit unions that better reflect their values. We also encourage local banks and credit unions to keep their profits circulating in the local economy in a transparent, socially-responsible manner.
Go Fire Your Bank has been very active since its conception early this spring. We participated in the April 11th Portland, OR bailout protests with A New Way Forward.
We were also present at the Portland, OR May Day parade, passing out hundreds of pink slips and giving a speech in front of Key Bank, who is under a union boycott for the funding of strike busting.
Our local banking scorecard is featured in the May 30th Real Wealth of Portland launch of their local banking campaign with featured speaker, author David Korten. Download the pamphlet.
Go Fire Your Bank is gaining momentum faster than the small group of volunteers that seeded it can keep up. This is a community effort. For those in the Portland, Oregon area you can help by gathering information on local PDX banks and credit unions (see our scorecard for suggestions) and posting it on the community bulletin board.
Those outside Portland, Oregon are also welcome to participate. Hopefully our PDX efforts can serve as a model for your own community banking list. Please feel free to contact us about teaming up with Go Fire Your Bank. We’d love to provide links to local banking lists and scorecards from YOUR community.
Let’s go fire the big, corporate banks!
